It’s been a crazy 13 years.
A lot of ups and downs, but it’s been a solid ride overall. The one thing I can take from marriage is there must be a lot of communication and compromise. You also have to love and trust each other and respect each other’s differences and interests. You don’t have to be into the same things; sometimes, you don’t even have to sleep in the same bedroom.
Nevertheless, I don’t regret a single thing. Maks really is the love of my life and he supports me wholeheartedly in everything I do and vice-versa. I really can’t imagine my life without him and I don’t want to.
This is the year we’re finally going to celebrate the way we wanted to back in 2020 until the entire world was shut-in. I wanted us to celebrate at a Michelin-rated restaurant, but after suffering a traumatic fall in our backyard (I’m fine now; I just misstepped and forgot there were sandbags when I did laundry), we decided to stay in.
Bear spent the night at one of his best friend’s house so it was just Maks and I having a private night. We ordered in sushi, got a nice bottle of champagne from Total Wine and More, and a charcuterie plate from Trader Joe’s. Maks surprised me with a bouquet of two-dozen red roses!
During the weekend, Bear had a birthday party he also attended and we went to the Ukrainian Pysanka Festival in Los Angeles. It was the first time the festival had been held since Covid and most importantly, the Russian invasion.
Bear ended up getting a pretty cool T-shirt:
And we donated a lot of money to Ukrainian causes in support of the war.
So, our anniversary celebration was short and sweet, but it was perfect and I’m happy. Sometimes, it’s not about painting the town red but spending as much quality time as possible.
And plus, we’re going on a small vacation soon so that’s when we’ll have a lot of fun!
